International Fixtures 19th November

Tonight the second legs of 6 World Cup Qualifiers will be played whilst many other international friendlies will be held. Stand out ties include England vs Germany where the Three Lions looking to bounce back after a shock 2-0 loss against Chile; Netherlands vs Colombia in which two high profile countries will look for a good result heading into next years World Cup; and Brazil vs Chile where the 11th and 12th ranked teams will face off in an all South American tie. Along with the World Cup Qualifiers and International Friendlies, a few Continental Qualifiers will take place in Asia as fourteen teams begin their AFC Asian Cup qualification. The highest ranked teams taking part are Iran and Uzbekistan. Yesterday four International Friendlies were held, with the most prominent game seeing Italy held to  a shock 2-2 draw with Nigeria. England vs Chile Preview 15/11/2013

England will face Chile in as they start preparing for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, England are probably one of the favourites along with Brazil, Spain, Germany and a few others, Brazil obviously topping the lot. As much as it would be a shock for England to win, it wouldn’t be impossible. Here’s my predicted England line up against Chile:

  1. Hart
  2. Walker
  3. Jagielka
  4. Cahill
  5. Baines
  6. Townsend
  7. Gerrard
  8. Lampard
  9. Rooney
  10. Sturridge
  11. Welbeck

A strong line up as England try to get into a rhythm playing together again as they prepare to play Germany the next week.

World Cup Qualifying Results 13th – 15th November

The first legs of 6 World Cup qualifiers contested by 12 hopeful nations have been played this week, and it is pretty much certain that 2 of these teams will be going to Brazil and two of these teams will be staying at home. Mexico thrashed New Zealand 5-1 in a fine display whilst Jordan were inevitably destroyed 5-0 at home by Uruguay. The only real surprise of these qualifiers came in France’s qualifier against Ukraine where the Yellow Blues came out victorious with  a 2-0 win. Despite some wonderful footballing displays there is still a lot to play for in the 2nd legs in many of these ties. A few teams can’t start celebrating just yet….
