Chelsea will have to make a short trip along the A4 to visit North London rivals Arsenal in the most highly anticipated tie of the Capital One Cup fourth round. After easily strolling to a 2-0 win away at Swindon, Chelsea will play league leaders Arsenal as they look to proceed into the Quarter Finals of the competition. The Gunners needed a penalty shoot out win against West Brom to book the tie against Mourinho’s men after a 1-1 scoreline at the end of extra time.
Chelsea’s last League Cup match against Arsenal was in the final 6 years ago – Chelsea coming out on top with a 2-1 victory. This was the last time the Blues won the competition. Arsenal on the other hand, have to go back to 1993 to find the last time they won the trophy, with a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in front of 74,000 spectators.
Elsewhere, Manchester United progressed to the next round as well after defeating arch-rivals Liverpool 1-0 at Old Trafford. Javier Hernandez scored the only goal of the match, after the Mexican slotted home from close range, meeting a delicious corner from Wayne Rooney. The Red Devils, courtesy of that victory, have set up a date with Norwich City at home. Derby rivals Manchester City defeated Wigan convincingly on Tuesday night and will travel to Tyneside to face Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United in the next round.
North London club Tottenham will face Premier League newcomers Hull City, while Mauricio Pochettino’s Southampton face manager-less Sunderland.
